Christ is Both

Man needs to be reconciled to God (2 Cor. 5: 20). This is possible only because Christ is our mediator (1 Tim. 2: 5). He serves His people another way also, and that is as our intercessor.

A mediator is the one who has the power and ability to make peace and remove the difficulties between us and God. Christ does this by the power of His blood.

We all intercede for one another. Paul urged brethren to pray for him as he did for them. The Holy Spirit is said to intercede for us also. But it is comforting to know that the Son of God intercedes on our half (Heb. 7:25). He is our High Priest before the Father.

There is only one mediator. Only Christ is qualified to accomplish the reconciliation we need. But in addition to that He pleads on our behalf as well. While there are similarities between a mediator and intercessor they are not identical. But Christ is both.
