He Did What We Could Not Do |
||
When Jesus raised
Lazarus from the dead He told the bystanders to, "Loose him and let
him go." Since He raised the dead, why did He not loose the grave
clothes also? I don't know. But it has been suggested that He did what
they could not do and expected them to do what they could. It sounds
reasonable.
I know that is what happened in the provision for our forgiveness. We can obey the gospel and take advantage of what He has done. But we could never do what He did. He provided the cleansing agent of our sin stained souls; He precious blood. Only His sacrifice could produce the forgiveness of sins. We merit nothing when we obey the gospel. But we reach His blood and thereby are washed clean and loosed from the grave clothes of sin and death. Rom. 6: 3,4. |
