How Many Scriptures?

Some actually boast regarding the number of Scriptures they use is a sermon. They also criticize others who may not use a host of passages in a sermon. Is that a proper measure regarding the value and soundness of a sermon? Certainly every sermon must be founded and explained according to "thus saith the Lord." But does it take verse after verse to do that?

We have heard many wonderful sermons where the preacher took one passage and expounded upon it to the profit of every listener. We have heard some others quote many passages  repeating what had already been taught, and bore people to tears. Must every related passage be quoted?

What is taught? Has the word been handled aright? Is truth presented? That is the measure; not the number of verses.
