Multi-purpose

The Lord has authorized the church to exercise discipline. Several purposes are involved in that, none of which is to "kick somebody out of the church", the terminology of liberals who do not believe the Bible and want the right to say and do anything they wish without opposition.

One goal is to restore the fallen. Another is to keep the church pure. Another is to warn the faithful. Another is to train. Another is to present the church properly before the world. Another is to defend the faith.

Who is to administer discipline and how it is to be done is given in Scripture but also involves making many judgments in the process. The goal is to bring glory to God and the salvation of souls. It is right to administer discipline, positively and negatively. It is wrong to ignore it.
