| There are some who
are teaching the direct operation of the Holy Spirit upon the Christian as
a result of a personal indwelling of the Spirit. They claim brethren have
taught this down through the years. THIS IS NOT TRUE. The idea of a
personal indwelling is unfounded. But those who have held that view have
not contended for a direct operation of the Spirit as a result of
indwelling but have rightfully contended for the all-sufficiency of the
Word as our guide. Therefore, this view has been tolerated because it does
no injury to the Word of God as our authority.
The truth about the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is that the Spirit dwells in us by and through the Word, as we follow the Word we have fellowship with Deity. This correct view emphasizes the all-sufficiency of the Word as the Bible teaches. Brethren have not allowed the difference in views to affect fellowship. But the direct operation teaching is a different matter. Do not be deceived by those who are teaching the direct operation of the Holy Spirit who say this is nothing new among us. This ploy is used to gain entrance among unsuspecting brethren. Those holding such a view teach error and should not be supported. |
