The Prize That Matters

Another Olympic contest has begun. Let me test your memory? Who won the most medals in 2004? Or 2000? Or whenever? Who can even name the contestants. So much ballyhoo was poured out over those things when they were happening and people just went wild and crazy about them. But what did that matter? Did those prizes really mean that much? Next Olympics, even next year, nobody will remember this one. It is trivial.

Yes, it has importance to some. But when measured by the prize that matters they are totally insignificant. Paul wrote, "I press toward the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 3: 14). He spoke of the prize that matters. Nothing attained in this life matters compared with reaching heaven. And the only way to do that is to obey and live the gospel of Jesus Christ. Do you not see the difference? We all must see it.
