Requite Your Parents

The word translated "requite" in First Timothy 5: 4 means recompense or pay back. It may be used in both a good sense and a bad sense. But in this passage it is in a good sense of caring for, providing for, showing appreciation for what parents have done on our behalf. While we never shall be able to pay back to good parents the great blessing they have been for us, we are to see that in their elderly years their needs are met with loving kindness.

Unfortunately, not all children have good parents nor do all see to the needs of their parents. There are those the church met help. But the first point of responsibility resides with family, not the church. But we would not want to see any fellow Christian in need even if their family was negligent in their duty.
