Sprinkling of the Blood

Peter tells us that the elect were "according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ" (1 Pet. 1:2).

Our phrase recalls the ceremonial action by Moses of sprinkling blood on the people (Exo. 24:8). Our phrase deals with how we are elected (chosen). We are sanctified (set apart) by obeying the Word given by the Spirit when the blood of Christ is applied.

Some have taken the passage and attempted someway to get sprinkling for baptism out of it. That only reveals how farfetched some will go to justify themselves to holding on to a human doctrine that is false. Guy Woods said, "From it (1 Pet. 1:2 JWB) we learn that the Father elects, the Spirit sanctifies, and the Son, by His blood, redeems." That explains it.
