A Little Big Man |

Physical size
obviously does not mean much when it comes to character. We previously
learned about Zaccaheus who was of small statue but a giant in character.
But Saul, the first king of Israel, even though he stood "higher than
any of the people from his shoulders and upward" proved to be such a
disappointment in those matters that really matter.
He began his career with tremendous prospects of potential greatness only to plunge to self-destruction because he did not have the moral character to be humble and obedient to the will of the God of heaven that gave him such an opportunity. Leaning on his own way rather than follow God's instructions, he committed one terrible blunder after another until he died at his own hand after suffering disgrace on the field of battle against the Philistines. He was not like noble Saul of the New Testament. Much can be learned by reviewing the life of this king in First Samuel. What he could have been and what he turned out to be was due to being so small spiritually even though large physically.. |
