A Severe Accusation |
||
Nothing could be
said that would be much worse than to brand a person as a hypocrite. But
hypocrisy is evident. The Lord warned against it. He would not have done
that except it is possible to be a hypocrite. That simply means pretending
to be something you really have no serious intention of being. It is a
first cousin to dishonesty, deceit and lack of integrity. It is the
opposite of being sincere.
Few things aroused the anger of Christ more than hypocrisy. Sometimes people desire to be respected and accepted and they feign to be what they really are not. That is hypocrisy. It is found in every realm of human activity. But it is most deadly in religion and serving God. God knows the heart and to pretend and act like you are something you are not is displeasing to Him.
