An Old Testament Pre-picture |
||
There is so many
thing about the tabernacle (later the temple) under the Mosaic system that
are types of things pertaining to the faith delivered by Christ. For
instance, before reaching the Holy Place (a type of the church) the
priests had to be sanctified, set apart, cleansed for the work they were
to do. A sacrifice was offered on the altar of burnt offering. Then the
priests were to be washed at the laver.
In like fashion, before one who serves as priest under Christ in His church one must pass the sacrifice of Christ on the cross and be washed in the waters of baptism. One can no more enter the church as an acceptable priest before God without the sacrifice of Christ and baptism than the Old Testament priests could do their work in the tabernacle without the sacrifice and washing. |
