The Apostles at Work |
||
Christ instructed
the apostles to preach the kingdom of God and heal the sick (Luke 9:2). He
gave them power to do that work. Verse six of that chapter tells us,
"And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel,
and healing every where." Their power to heal was to confirm the Word
that they preached (Mark 16: 20; Hebrews 2: 3, 4).
It is a glorious thing that the gospel about the kingdom was preached. Those who were healed were blessed indeed. But we also see the marvelous obedience on the part of the apostles to do that which the Lord commanded them to do. In spite of the problems they would face in their work, "off to work we go." We have our marching order also to take God's confirmed message of truth to the world. We may not bring the world to Christ but we must take Christ to the world. What people do regarding Him will be their personal responsibility. We must make sure we discharge the work we are given. |
