Are You a Humming Bird? |
||
Among the many
changes some would like to impose on the church is the practice of humming
songs rather than singing them. Possibly convinced instrumental music is
not authorized, but still wanting something new, sensational, startling,
different, some have turned to humming hymns and songs. But where is this
taught in Scripture? Oh, it is the verse just before the one that teaches
instrumental music, I think. Maybe it's the verse that also authorizes
clapping and ping-pong.
Singing is to speak, teach and admonish. Humming does not, cannot, do this. So even if it is the sound of the voice, it is not what Scripture teaches is to be done in song. So confine your humming to your morning walk, grocery shopping, or country drive. It has no place in worship. |
