At Both Ends |
||
The old saying,
"Burning your candle at both ends" is familiar and means living
a very busy, even a hectic way of life. It is not a recommended path
because it usually hastens the end of life. Those who rush through life
often end is sooner. Offsetting that thought is the saying that it is
better to burn out than rust out.
Burning the candle at both ends does mean giving off twice the amount of light, doesn't it? Which is better: proper light for a short time or inadequate light for a long time? Hard to tell. Of course, proper light for a long time is what most of us would prefer. What matters is, whether short or long, that your light shines so as to bring glory to God (Matt. 5: 16). We do well to check our "candle." |
