Commend the Thief |
||
The crime committed
by the man crucified with Christ cannot be justified because it was wrong.
He knew he deserved the punishment he was getting. But he also knew that
Jesus was one who had done nothing amiss, and he said so to the other
thief.
Inasmuch as all the disciples had forsaken Jesus, others viewed from afar off, and most were mocking Him, it is notable that the thief did not hesitate to defend the Lord in this crucial hour. In fact, he was about the only one who openly did so, going against the mob's attitude and recognizing the goodness of the Lord. For this he should be commended. There are other remarkable traits of goodness displayed by this man that we want to consider in the next few days. His words could be heard by others and he expressed himself on the Lord's behalf..
