First Fruits of Europe |
||
The city of Philippi
is in Macedonia, a Roman colony. It is on the continent of Europe. Until
Paul and his companions took the gospel there those living in Europe has
never heard the saving truth of Christ. The first converts were women led
by one named Lydia and those of her household. While giving recognition of
the Sabbath day in a Gentile city where there was no synagogue, she and
her friends met by a river. It was there that Paul and others preached
God's truth to them and they attended to the things they were taught.
Lydia and the others exhibited outstanding qualities of nobility in many ways but to her and her associates lies the distinction of being the first people converted to Christ in Europe. Read about it in Acts 16. |
