Hasting |

Second Peter chapter
three verse twelve reads, "Looking for and hasting unto the coming of
the day of God..." Peter is discussing the return of Christ and the
end of the world. He is giving directions to Christians what their
attitude toward that event should be and their present manner of life in
view of what comes with His return.
The word :hasting" is not one we often hear used in this sense in today's conversation and modern writings. Most people get the idea that Peter wants to "hurry up" His coming. But the meaning is, "to desire earnestly." The Christian does not fear His return but looks forward to it. The reward that awaits him will be his when Christ returns. Seeing how His return will eventually be, soon or late, the Christian orders his life to please the Lord. |
