He Gave Me Good Advice |
||
When I was a very
young preacher I encountered many religious ideas that I have never
dreamed could even exist. It was frustrating. But an older preacher, now
dead, came to preach in a gospel meeting where I preached and I talked
with him about the many problems of doctrines that seemed everywhere both
in and out of the church; doctrines that were in error.
I recall asking him what was the best way to keep people from accepting those false doctrines. He said, first, PREACH THE WORD. When people know the truth they will be better able to detect error. Then spend some time showing how a false view contradicts truth. But I should make my major emphasis on showing what is right. Nobody could ever expose everything that is wrong, and even if you did, knowledge of what is right matters most. |
