He Provided for Elijah |
||
When the drought
Elijah forecast came to pass the Lord directed Elijah to a certain place
and provided a brook that gave him water and ravens brought him bread and
flesh. When the brook dried up God sent Elijah to Zarephath to the home of
a widow. When Elijah arrived the woman was about to prepare what she
thought would be the last meal for herself and her son. Elijah asked that
she bake him a little cake first and she did.
God then provided for both Elijah and the widow by not allowing the barrel of meal to ever become empty. Were not these provisions miraculously done? Certainly it was miraculous. But God provides for His own even yet through His providence and promise. Did not Jesus say with regard to the physical provision of life, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matt. 6:33)? All spiritual blessings are ours through Christ (Eph. 1: 3). But God ADDS (just throws in extra) the material needs that we have. Great is the providence of God to His people. |
