How Deep Was Their Evil |
||
In John eight we
read of the woman taken in adultery and brought to Jesus to see what He
would say about it. Their vile motives are evident because they had no
real concern for the spiritual welfare of the woman or the man who was not
brought. What the law taught was not their principal interest. They were
trying Christ.
There was no question about her guilt. Jesus later acknowledged her sinfulness, but told her to go and sin no more. As for the accusers, once Jesus exposed their sinister motives and hypocrisy they slipped away one by one in a cowardly fashion unable to withstand the heat of truth and their own sinfulness. He let these evil people "hang themselves." Often that is the best way to handle evil doers. |
