How Financed |
||
That the work of the
church requires finances is so obvious we will not spend time on that more
than to simply recognize it. But how should the church raise its funds to
do the work it is authorized to do?
First, no funds should be raised for an unauthorized work. We must adhere to the theme of 1 Pet. 4:11 and Col. 3: 17 and the many passages that teach not to add nor take from the Word of God. Consulting the Scriptures we find the church is to raise its funds by giving, free-will offering, voluntarily given, cheerfully, liberally, as we have prospered, showing our love for the Lord (Acts 4: 33-37; 1 Cor. 8: 1-4; 2 Cor. 9: 6,7; 16: 1,2. That leaves out bake sales, auctions, pie suppers, car washes, or soliciting the general public and government. We see and hear of some, even some who claim to be so conservative, dipping into these measures for money. We must stay with Scripture even in these matters. |
