How to Become Like Him |
||
While we shall never
reach absolute perfection like Christ, we want to be more like Him. We
sing a hymn that suggests, "More and more like Jesus, I would ever
be." But how is this accomplished?
In Second Corinthians 3: 18 Paul wrote, "But we all, with open face (some translations say "unveiled face") beholding as in a glass (or mirror) the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord." The formula for becoming like Christ is to focus our attention on Him as revealed in Scripture and imitate what we learn there. "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith," (Hebrews 12: 2) we are transformed, changed, made over into His likeness. It is a process of spiritual growth as we feed upon His Word. It is a process that never ceases as long as we live. We can be changed from what we are into what He desires. This is the major goal of life. |
