Implications of the Invitation |
||
The invitation that
Jesus extended and is recorded in Matthew 11:28-30 implies basic truth
that we cannot overlook. The very fact He invites shows we are in need of
the salvation He offers. It shows He can save and wants to save. He urges
that we come to Him. It shows there is a barrier between us and God (sin)
that He can and will remove. It shows we can come if only we would. It
shows God has provided the way and revealed the way in the gospel. It
shows our need for the lifting of the burden of sin and assuming the
lighter yoke of serving Christ.
But it also shows how we must act in obedience and come to Him and come the only way He has provided; namely, faith, repentance, confession and baptism into Christ for the remission of sins. Indeed, this passage of the invitation is a marvelous and amazing offer by Deity unto sinful men.
