Is He Saying DON'T TEACH? |
||
If he is he
contradicts every other New Testament writer and the Lord's command. So I
know that is not his message when he says, "My brethren, be not many
masters (teachers), knowing that we shall receive the greater
condemnation" (James 3: 1).
Those who teach have a heavy and serious responsibility. They also have greater opportunity and influence. Therefore, they shall be held accountable for what they teach. This does not mean the student is not to be held accountable also. But the teacher has a great duty and privilege and will be judged more precisely and severely. It is a marvelous privilege to teach the Word. But it must be done realizing what an awesome judgment awaits those who undertake the task. Rather than discouraging others from teaching, James is simply encouraging teachers to do their work well. |
