Laity Sunday |

| On the sign in front
of a denominational building (Methodist) was the notice that next Sunday
would be Laity Sunday. What Scripture supported that? There are few
Protestant churches more liberal than the Methodist Church. But for people
to claim to follow the Bible and have a Laity Sunday only betrays the
wholesale inconsistency of them.
What special activity takes place on Laity Sunday I do not know but nothing like this ever happened in the Lord's church presented in the Bible. First, there was no "laity" and "clergy" distinction that has been imitated from Catholicism. There was no Methodist Church. But to most people that does not matter. What gets attendance, pleases people, brings in money, makes people feel good, that is all that matters. What God says and wants is of no real concern anymore.
