The Last Part of the Verse |
||
Mark 16:16 is verse
hated by denominations who disparage baptism. Our lord gave two conditions
for salvation in this verse and one is baptism. But they don't want it.
They cite the last part of the verse, "but he that believeth not
shall be damned." "See there," they say. He didn't say you
would be lost if you were not baptized. Do they think our Lord is stupid?
If you want to be saved you must what He says. If being lost is all right with you, then just don't believe. That will produce your damnation. Until one believes he won't care about baptism, repentance, confession, worship, nothing. He tells us how to be saved; also how to remain lost. He is the author of salvation to the obedient (Heb. 5:9). If you want to be saved, obey Him. If you love Him, obey Him (John 14:15). If you are His friend, obey Him (John 15;14). Why call Him Lord and refuse to obey Him (Luke 6:46)? If you prefer hell, then don't believe. That settles that. |
