Like a Hammer |
||
In the book written
by the prophet Jeremiah we have several descriptions of the Word of God.
In chapter twenty three a verse twenty nine he wrote when God spoke of His
word, "Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a
hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?" This is not the first time
His Word was called a fire, "a burning fire" but it is also
called a hammer. This hammer is powerful, strong, able to crush that which
deserved to be crushed.
In the context that which to be broken were the false prophets that were misleading Judah. They stole His words and claimed to speak in His name when they did not have His authority to do so. They would be in pieces. So it is when the Word is applied to any and every false teacher even today. They may prosper for while but there is coming that day when they will be forsaken and receive just recompense for the error they taught. |
