Misplaced Trust |
||
"Trust not in
lying words, saying, The temple of the Lord, The temple of the Lord, The
temple of the Lord, are these" (Jeremiah 7: 4). The people of Judah
were in rebellion against God by their wickedness, but they supposed all
was well simply because they still had the temple of the Lord But
their words were lying words. Just having the temple was not sufficient.
God expected the people to be righteous and live obediently to His will; not simply rely upon some object. It would not be long before their temple would be in ashes destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar. Their trust should have been in God; not some material possession. Could it be some are comfortable because they have ornate church buildings but whose lives are not righteous? Do we listen to lying words to our ruin? |
