Only Seek Self |
||
Few would doubt that
selfishness is one of man's characteristics and everyone is affected by
it. While there is a proper concern for self, it should not be the
governing element of our life. Paul had to suffer such people even when he
was being persecuted for righteousness sake.
He wrote to his beloved Philippian brethren and told them he would send Timothy to them because Timothy would care for their welfare. Then he said, "For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's" (Phil. 2: 21). Is this not a problem in the world today? Does not this blight also raise its ugly head sometimes among brethren? Rather than seeking what is in the best interest of others we are prone to ignore others and only look out for the proverbial "number one." Christ was not that way. Neither should we be. The world is governed by such an attitude. This is not the manner of life we should live. |
