Straightway after
his conversion we find the man called Saul preaching the gospel in
Damascus. This was a marvelous thing seeing how he had come to Damascus
for the specific purpose of imprisoning those who had subscribed to the
gospel. But after being baptized he headed to the Jewish synagogue, not to
worship according to the Jewish law, but the preach to his Jews kinsmen
the way of salvation through Christ.
This transformation was startling to all those who knew this man as Saul of Tarsus, a zealous persecutor of Christians. Now he was preaching the same Christ he had persecuted. It soon brought him danger because there were plots to kill him and for the rest of his life he faced such plots but never ceased his work of preaching Christ crucified (1 Cor. 1:23). |
