Preparing for Lord's Day

Tomorrow is the first day of the week. It is the day the saints assemble for worship, to partake of the Lord's Supper, give of their means for the cause of Christ, sing, pray together and study His Word. These are the physical acts of worship. But there is the very important mental side of worship we should not dismiss. To do the physical things without sincerity of heart would be mere form and ritual without spiritual benefit.

We look forward to each Lord's Day. We should think about what we are going to do and why. We should prepare our minds and bodies so we can worship "in spirit" as well as "in truth." To spend this day in activities that would detract from acceptable worship is out of place especially since the day is upon us. There are plans that should be made so we will not be absent from the assembly. (Some make plans to deliberately be absent.)

The Lord's Day is a special day because of what takes place. It is not appropriate to consider it just another day and use it like other days. We ought prepare for the spiritual service we are to render to God.
