Proverbs 22:6 |
||
This familiar text can be terribly misunderstood. Some have concluded that the spiritual welfare of a child is ALTOGETHER the responsibility of parents. That is not so. While the child is young the parents must bring them up in the admonition of the Lord. Children must be trained. Many parents are horribly negligent in meeting this obligation. But when the child matures he assumes a personal responsibility for his soul. He must choose to go the way of his training if remains faithful. Many times other influences and choices contrary to parental training are allowed by the child to dominate. This does not diminish the awesome parental responsibility, but it does mean the child must do his or her part also. When the child is properly trained, and will follow that training, when the child grows old he will remain faithful. |
