Return to the Shepherd |
||
Much is made in
Scripture of the analogy of sheep and shepherd to Christians and Christ.
Christ is our Shepherd. Peter wrote, "For ye were as sheep going
astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your
souls" (First Peter 2:25).
Isaiah prophesied, "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all" (Isaiah 53:6). John 10 is the chapter that presents Christ as the Good Shepherd and door of the sheepfold. Psalm 23 is a favorite of many that begins, "The Lord is my shepherd." A study of sheep and their shepherd helps us understand our relationship to Christ. Those in Palestine understood this relationship so the Lord used it repeatedly to teach mankind His will. |
