Return to the Shepherd

Much is made in Scripture of the analogy of sheep and shepherd to Christians and Christ. Christ is our Shepherd. Peter wrote, "For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls" (First Peter 2:25).

Isaiah prophesied, "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all" (Isaiah 53:6).

John 10 is the chapter that presents Christ as the Good Shepherd and door of the sheepfold. Psalm 23 is a favorite of many that begins, "The Lord is my shepherd."

A study of sheep and their shepherd helps us understand our relationship to Christ. Those in Palestine understood this relationship so the Lord used it repeatedly to teach mankind His will.
