Strong Words of Condemnation |
||
Jesus wanted His
hearers to understand the extent of their wickedness so that they might
repent and become righteous. His rebukes often included strong
denunciation of the people. He did it motivated by love for their souls
that they might turn unto God.
Matthew 23: 33, "Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?" The fact of the matter was that they could not escape going the path they were traveling. Should Jesus let them think all was well when they were such wicked people? Sometimes people can speak strong words motivated by contempt and hatred. But Jesus always spoke motivated by love. So must we. Strong words of themselves are neither good nor evil. They do capture attention. But we must guard our hearts in those times and be as the Lord Jesus. |
