They Were Witnesses; We Are Not |
||
When you read of a
witness in Scripture it refers to one who has seen that of which he speaks
or is one who is directly guided by the Holy Spirit in what he says. The
apostles were witnesses of Christ and preached what they knew from
experience as well as divine guidance. Today there are some who claim to
be a "witness for Christ" but they have not seen what they speak
nor are they divinely guided. The best anyone today can do is to reveal
the testimony of the witnesses of the New Testament.
Some claim to be "Jehovah's Witnesses." But that is impossible and we read of no such thing in Scripture that would apply today. That refers to a human religion that partakes of part of the apostles' testimony mixed with much false doctrine. We should speak as the oracles of God (1 Pet. 4: 11) and refrain from calling ourselves what we are not and cannot be. |
