Thou Shalt Not Kill |
||
Whether you approve
of "capital punishment" or not, there is no excuse for making
the commandment "thou shalt not kill" to forbid it. The command
forbids murder, not just taking human life. Murder is the deliberate
taking of innocent human life. That does not fit the action of capital
punishment.
Opponents of capital punishment are often heard to say that the Bible teaches, "Thou shalt not kill." It does. But it means not to murder. The same God that gave the commandment often commanded executions. Usually those opposing capital punishment do not really care what God says about much of anything. They only abuse His Word in this matter. You may oppose capital punishment, but you cannot do it with this command. There is a lesson on this subject on this website (Category 15; Lesson 732). You should know what the Word of God says about this subject.
