Two Kinds of Evil |
||
God spoke through
Jeremiah and said, "Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought
upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah..." How could be
responsible for evil? Well, there is moral evil, which God never commits,
and there is evil in the sense of justified punishment upon the evildoer.
It is the last evil that God has done.
When God told Jeremiah what He did He expressed the reason for it. "Because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger..." (Jeremiah 44: 3). Punishment is difficult to bear. We consider it evil. But it is because of man's moral evil that punishment is justified. So it was with Judah. |
