What a Reaction |
||
"Then from that
day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death" (John
11: 53). Jesus had raised Lazarus from the dead. Many believed on Him
because of that. But there was another reaction by the Pharisees. They
could not rejoice over Lazarus nor were willing to give Christ the
deserved glory and honor. They were too concerned about "our
place" of authority and power. They considered Jesus a threat to them
because of His influence. Therefore, they sought to dispose of Him.
We find that same sad reaction among some today. The evidence concerning Christ does not seem to influence them in the least. His will disrupts their greedy attitudes, the passion for power and fame, their desire to satisfy every fleshly lust, their self-willed manner of life. They cannot physically kill Him as the Pharisees sought, but they kill Him as far as their lives are concerned. But who is the loser? The Lord is victorious. None can defy Him and succeed in eternity. And that is where we are all headed. Think about it. |
