When the Word Abides |
||
We need the word of
God to abide in us. His word is our guide. Without it we are left without
chart or compass in this life and no direction toward heaven. But how can
we know whether the word abides in us or not? Just claiming that it does
is not sufficient evidence. People claim most anything whether there is
substance to it or not.
The word abides in us when we believe in Him that is sent. "And ye have not his word abiding in you; for whom he hath sent him ye believe not" (John 5: 38). It is the same principle as the words of Jesus in Luke 6: 46, "And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?" Men can shout long and loud how the love Jesus and how they abide in Him. But only when we have an obedient faith can the claim be actually true. Jesus said, "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you" (John 15: 7). |
